Grain Yield Stability of Cereal-Legume Intercrops Is Greater Than Sole Crops in More Productive Conditions

چکیده
The intercropping of two or more crop species on the same piece land at a given time has been hypothesized to enhance yield stability. To address this hypothesis, we assessed grain stability various barley-pea and wheat-faba bean mixtures grown in seven experimental field trials (locations) across Europe during years with contrasting weather (2017 2018). Three different measures were used, all based expected variability mixture components as sole crops, corresponding observed 50:50 replacement design. Stability indices calculated ratios between variabilities, values > 1 indicating greater intercrops. Mean yields tended be higher intercrops than crops. However, contrast our (intercrop) was similar lower (sole crop) most locations except one. Furthermore, significantly increased increasing mean when differentially productive locations. results are relevant for designing systems means increase resilience cropping systems.

Maize-grain legume intercropping for enhanced resource use efficiency and crop productivity in the Guinea savanna of northern Ghana
Smallholder farmers in the Guinea savanna practise cereal-legume intercropping to mitigate risks of crop failure in mono-cropping. The productivity of cereal-legume intercrops could be influenced by the spatial arrangement of the intercrops and the soil fertility status. Knowledge on the effect of soil fertility status on intercrop productivity is generally lacking in the Guinea savanna despite...

Intercropping legume with cereal is an extensively applied planting pattern in crop cultivation. However, forage potential and the degradability of harvested mixtures from intercropping system remain unclear. متن کاملLegume Shrubs Are More Nitrogen-Homeostatic than Non-legume Shrubs
Legumes are characterized as keeping stable nutrient supply under nutrient-limited conditions. However, few studies examined the legumes' stoichiometric advantages over other plants across various taxa in natural ecosystems. We explored differences in nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) stoichiometry of different tissue types (leaf, stem, and root) between N2-fixing legume shrubs and non-N2-fixing ...
